Overview
Gecko Runner is a fast-paced arcade runner inspired by the iconic offline dinosaur game. Developed for the GMTK 2024 game jam under the theme “Built to Scale,” it replaces the familiar T-Rex with a determined gecko.
Set in a playful behind-the-scenes world, the gecko performs to entertain bored users by pretending to be a dinosaur. It uses its oversized shadow to maintain the illusion, turning a simple runner into a creative, reflex-driven experience.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
Your goal is to survive as long as possible while maintaining the dinosaur illusion. The gecko runs automatically, and you control its position and shadow size.
You must:
- Avoid meteors and other hazards
- Adjust the gecko’s size so its shadow fits through gaps
- React quickly as the speed increases
The main challenge is managing both the gecko and its shadow. Mistiming either results in a crash.
